James Showalter

Life Story for James Richard "Rick" Showalter

James (Rick) Showalter, 68, passed suddenly Friday, June 12, 2015 in Phoenix, AZ. Rick was born Dec. 25, 1946, in Lawrence, KS., moving to the Wood River Valley with his parents in 1968 where he met his wife Cathy Showalter who he married on July 3, 1987 combining their two families. He served his country as a Marine, after leaving the Marine corp. he worked as a mechanic and carpenter for many years before retiring into the role of a full-time papa.

Rick enjoyed fishing and golfing but most of all he enjoyed his family. Any moment that he could spend with his eight grandkids was a moment he treasured. Rick was an anchor for his entire family and will be deeply missed by everyone who was lucky enough to have had him in their life.

He is survived by his wife Cathy Showalter; son Joey (Teresa) and their children Barratt, Lori and Vicki; son Jamie (Brenda) and their children Audie, Payden and Emmet; mother Alta Showalter; brothers Randy Showalter, Rod Showalter, Ron Showalter; sister Chris Kimball; step-son Hoss (Heather) Schmidt and their two children McKenna and Rachael and his step-daughter Karen Schmidt. Rick is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his son John Showalter; father Bill Showalter and grandmother Alta Barratt

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 20, 2015 at the Bellevue City Park.

Viewing will be held from 5:00 p.m - 7 p.m. on Friday June 19, 2015 at the Wood River Chapel.
