Rodney Alan Peterson, born on May 3, 1959, at the old Hailey Hospital, was the first of five siblings to Alan "Buster" and Gail Louise Peterson of Carey. He grew up on the family farm near Little Wood Reservoir Road in Carey. Rodney attended Carey schools until his junior year, where he face challenges with undiagnosed dyslexia. Afterward, he joined the military, where he served until his discharge in 1981. Upon returning home, he pursued a career in construction and quickly became known for his exceptional eye for framing houses, primarily working throughout the Magic Valley area.
Rodney never married and later returned to Carey, where he worked for various farmers, including his Uncle Jim and Aunt Mary. A skilled mechanic, Rodney's abilities extended beyond construction, though he wasn't always one to lend a hand unless he was called upon. He later returned to the Magic Valley to resume his work in construction.
Around ten years ago, Rodney's life took a difficult turn when he contracted pneumonia and was sent to the University of Utah Hospital for surgery to remove a mass from his brain. While his recovery was long, he never fully returned to his previous self. Despite these challenges, he continued to live in Carey with his parents until his passing. Rodney died peacefully in his sleep on March 2, 2025, at the age of 65.
He is survived by his parents, Buster and Gail Peterson; two brothers, Ron and Dustin Peterson; two sisters, Lisa (Dennis) Baird and Chris (Steve) Dayton; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He will be remembered for his quiet strength and the impact he had on his family and community. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 8th 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at the LDS Church Culture Hall in Carey. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Rodney's life.
