Robert Oversier passed away suddenly but peacefully at the age of 83, on December 5, 2023 in his Hailey, Idaho home. He and his identical twin brother, Adrian, were born on February 15th, 1940 in Papua, New Guinea where their father was posted for the Shell Oil Company at the time.
When World War II broke out, Christina Oversier and her twin sons were unable to leave New Guinea, along with many other British and Dutch nationals. They were all interned in a Japanese concentration camp for over four years and remained there until the boys were six years old . They survived the horrors of the war and with freedom, Robert and his family moved to Holland, Indonesia and Australia, before moving permanently to the United States. There they joined his uncle in Los Angeles where he and his brother grew up in Mandeville Canyon, in Brentwood. The brothers attended Harvard Boys School and University High School in West Los Angeles.
Robert received his college education at Denver University, where he had been awarded a full swimming scholarship. He then attended the University of San Diego, where he attained his Masters Degree in International Relations.
In 1963, Robert was commissioned as an Ensign in the United States Navy and subsequently was promoted twice. His two tours of duty in Vietnam included major combat in the Mekong Delta. His outstanding performance in battle earned Robert four Bronze Star Medals with combat “V”(three gold stars). In 1973, Lieutenant Robert Oversier was honorably discharged from the United States Navy.
Robert then resided in Spain for a several years prior to moving back to Los Angeles where he was a banker and then started his own business. At the time of his death, Robert was employed by his dear friend Tom Perakos as a real estate manager and executive assistant.
Robert was an avid athlete his entire life: swimmer, competitive sailor, horse trainer and cyclist. He was a passionate, wonderful and devoted dog owner his whole life.
He is survived by his twin brother Adrian Oversier, two nieces Stacy Oversier and Heidi McCune; and, his beloved King Charles Spaniels, King Charlie and Lord Bentley. A celebration of life is being planned for the summer. In remembrance of Robert, a contribution may be made to Safe Harbor Foundation.org.
