Life Story for
Don L. Nisson
Donald L. Nisson 88, of Bellevue, Idaho, passed away on April 11, 2015, at Bridge View Estates in Twin Falls, Idaho.
Don was born on February 22, 1927, in Hailey, Idaho to Carl and Viola (Babe) Nisson. He grew up in the Gannett area. When Don was 16 years old, his dad was killed in a mining accident. Over night, he became a man taking on the responsibility of running the family farm.
Don married Dolores Sherbine on July 14, 1946. When he and Dolores were first married, Don was a miner at the Triumph mine in Hailey, Idaho, and he also mined in Pioche, Nevada. Later on Don and Dolores returned to Gannett and the Baseline Road. He worked approximately 20 years at the Sun Valley Ski resort during the winter as a lift operator on Bald Mountain and farmed during the summer months.
Don was a life-long farmer on the Baseline Road. He raised alfalfa, clover, barley, sheep, and milked dairy cows. His two sons (Don and Jim) helped out on the family farm when they were young boys. Later on he and his son Jim became partners farming their crops together. Don farmed with Jim until his health no longer allowed him to. Don was a humble man who wasn’t materialistic. His main concern was the well being of his loved ones. He deeply loved his wife and family.
Don is survived by his wife of 68 years; his children, Don (Ann) Nisson, Susan Rowland, Shelly (Tracey) McAuley, and daughter-in-law Jesse Nisson. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, his brothers (Bill and Norman), sister (Norene), son (Jim), grandson (Daron), and son-in-law (Mitch).
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Hospice of the Wood River Valley, PO BOX 4321, Ketchum, ID 83340 or Idaho Home Health and Hospice, 221 South River Street, Hailey, Idaho 83333.
The family would like to thank the staff at Bridge View Estates in Twin Falls and Hospice for the loving care they gave to our dad. He will be missed forever by many people who loved him dearly.
