Life Story for
Marc Lee Mickelson
Marc Lee Mickelson died December 22, 2015 in the cabin where he lived North of Ketchum. He was born March 24, 1954 to Bob and Mary Lou Mickelson in Tacoma, WA.
He was raised on Steilacoom Lake in Lakewood, WA and graduated from Charles Wright Academy in 1973, where he starred in both football and track. He was also an avid and beautiful snow and water skier. After graduating from CWA, he went into the construction field. Ultimately, he realized that he truly understood and enjoyed working with wood and became an exceptionally creative wood worker and finish carpenter.
Marc’s early years were filled with friends, sports, outdoor activities and fun. Family was always extremely important to him, and his daughter, Cassandra Dawn Mickelson was born April 20, 1999. She was the “apple of his eye”. He loved music, dancing and cooking, and he truly enjoyed sharing those passions with those around him. Animals, and especially dogs, were an important part of his life: he always had at least one, and, frequently, two dogs. He took pleasure in their companionship and he was deeply loyal to them, as they were to him.
His later years were shadowed by his abuse of alcohol and his struggle to overcome that addiction. Ultimately, alcohol won.
He is preceded in death by his parents, step-mother, Joan Robb Mickelson, and step-sister Jodie Robb. He is survived by his daughter, Cassandra Mickelson, and her mother, Sharon Christenson; sister, Heidi Mickelson, brother-in-law, Danny Beritich, and nephew, Zach Mickelson; step-brothers, Tom, Don and John Robb.
Before his struggles, Marc rejoiced in the lighter side of life. He had an extraordinary aptitude for rhyme. His snow ski lessons to friends typically consisted of “Bend zee knees, five dollars please”. That warm, fun-loving, kind and gentle side of him will be missed by all that truly knew him, both two- and four-legged.
There will be a celebration of his life in the New Year. Anyone who might be interested in attending, please email his sister at Heidi.mickelson@svn.com and she will provide the information once details are finalized.
