Michael Lynn Rainey passed away suddenly on March 4 while serving a part-time mission with his wife, Paula, in Neah Bay, Washington.
Mike was born on July 12, 1953, in Oakland, California, to Lynn and Betty Rainey.
Mike served a full-time mission in Texas from 1972-74. Mike attended Brigham Young University and upon graduation worked for General Dynamics. He later went on to become a CFO for several successful businesses. He was also involved in volunteer work for many years.
Mike was a fun-loving and kind-hearted man. He lived an exciting life and loved to fish, sail, scuba dive, participate in local line dancing and ride anything with two wheels. He enjoyed refurbishing and “upgrading” motorcycles. He was also passionate about vehicles with four wheels and had owned several exotic cars over the years.
Mike was a top athlete on his high school swim team and was actively involved in athletics throughout his life. He coached swimming for the high school in Gooding and the Magic Valley Marlins in Twin Falls and competed in the men’s butterfly event at the Senior Olympics more than once.
Mike was married to Paula May on Feb. 14, 2014 (yes, they were married on Valentine’s Day). Mike will be remembered by his loving family as a man of faith, a wonderful husband, father, sibling and friend.
Mike is survived by his wife, Paula; sisters, Nikki and Terri; brothers, Phil and Pat; and his eight children, Crystal, David, Diana, Tiffany, Ethan, Amelia, Marissa and Sam. He also has 13 grandchildren, Andreas, Isabella, Talon, Cameron, Catalina, Kamaili, Caeley, David, Andrew, Jake, Sydney, Olivia and Harper, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Betty and Lynn, and his infant son, Matthew Joseph.
Mike and Paula have made Hagerman their home since 2020. A memorial service will take place at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints located at 620 N. State St., Hagerman, Idaho, on March 15.
