John Kevin "Big Fish" McClatchy
John “Big Fish” McClatchy, 55, died at his home south of Bellevue on Thursday, July 22, 2010 following a diagnosis of cancer several months ago.
He was born February 11, 1955, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the son of James and Jane McClatchy.
John moved to Sun Valley, Idaho in 1978, where he became an avid skier, and worked for his brother Jim as a carpenter. In 1985, he started as a fishing guide in Kenai, Alaska, began as a hunting guide in the Selway Wilderness of Idaho. He later worked as a heavy equipment operator and for Swenke Landscaping and Irrigation. Most recently, John has been doing custom farming.
Of all his activities, he enjoyed fishing the most.
John married Kathy Sinclair McClatchy on January 4, 1992 in Honolulu, Hawaii. In addition to Kathy, John is survived by his mother Jane of Philadelphia; two sisters Sue Nelson of Toronto, Canada, and Carol of Philadelphia; two brothers Jim of Hailey and Tom of Philadelphia. His father preceded him in death 27 years ago.
John was well-known in the Valley as a good friend, and he will be dearly missed by many.
