It is with deep sorrow and love that we announce the passing of Mary Bernreuter Rodriguez, who left us peacefully on December 7, 2024, at the age of 89, in Twin Falls, Idaho. Born in Hawthorne, Nevada, on November 11, 1935, Mary was the youngest of five children in the Bernreuter family. She was raised and attended school in Key West, Florida, before beginning a life filled with love, creativity, and wisdom.
Mary was a wonderful mother, a cherished grandmother, and a beloved wife to her late husband, Arthur E. Rodriguez, who passed away after 60 years of marriage. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised three daughters: Roberta Morcone, Carrie Tweeten, and Audrey Rodriguez. Mary’s devotion to her family was unmatched, and she firmly believed that children needed to be "raised" rather than simply allowed to grow up.
Mary had a gift for offering helpful advice based on her years of collective wisdom, and she was always there to listen, comfort, and guide. Her love for children was evident in every aspect of her life, and her nurturing spirit extended beyond her own family to many who were fortunate enough to know her. She was deeply in tune with the world around her and had a special appreciation for the beauty in nature, particularly the ever-changing cloud formations that she loved to observe with a sense of awe and wonder.
An avid reader, Mary believed that one could never have too many books. She always needed at least three to read at once, constantly seeking new worlds and ideas to explore. Her sharp mind and creativity extended beyond the pages of her books—she was a creative painter, a skilled seamstress, and a devoted homemaker. Her home was always filled with love, warmth, and the artistry of her hands. Whether creating something beautiful with fabric or paint or offering her unique perspective on the world, Mary left a lasting imprint on the hearts of everyone she touched.
A private family service will be held to celebrate Mary’s life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, at http://fundraising.stjude.org/goto/Give_to_StJude, in her honor.
