Madilyn Rose Cox

May 28, 2004 — September 28, 2024

Tempe, AZ from Hailey, ID

Madilyn Rose Cox, 20, left this physical world to be with the Lord, on September 28th, 2024. Madilyn left behind a legacy of light, love, and grace for all who knew, and loved her.

Madilyn, affectionately known as Madi, was born on May 28, 2004 in Ketchum, Idaho, to Patrick and Danette Cox. From her first breath, Madi’s bright eyes and spirit, permeated the hearts of everyone around her. As an infant, Madi’s aura and look of “knowing” would get the attention of her loved ones, who knew she held a uniqueness like none other. Madilyn expressed her compassionate, gentle, and loving nature, through her affectionate hugs and good-deeds toward her loved ones.

As a child, Madilyn found joy playing with her dolls, creating Fairy forests, being a ballerina, ice-skating, and playing her violin. Madi was brilliant and had an insatiable thirst for knowledge. She would immerse herself within the pages of countless books, finding answers, direction, and solace. As young as 12-years-old, Madi could be found completing the last page of a 600 page novel. Madi was a fashionista, with impeccable taste and style. She was an adventurer and traveler, and from a young age, Madi would often be found on a plane or in a car, traveling to visit her friends and family. She would often comment on how she was most comfortable and peaceful when she was at an airport or in an airplane, embarking on her next adventure.

As she grew, Madi developed a love for soccer and art, immersing herself in poetry, music, and creating artistic masterpieces. She was a lover of nature and animals and was always snapping photos of the latest spectacular sunset. One of Madi's favorite pastimes was hiking in the mountains of her birthplace. Madi held a vast amount of talents and interests, making it difficult for her to pin down one thing to make of her life's work. She considered being a doctor, lawyer, fashion designer, flight attendant, pilot, and others. At 19-years-old, Madilyn forged her own path to the sunny skies of Tempe, Arizona. It was there, where her heart and spirit soared, and then rested. She loved the sun and warmth, and she soaked up every moment in her new home. She had cousins and her great-aunt and uncle close by, whom she visited often. It was here, where she found her passion nannying a two-year-old girl. Madi was often referred to as our “little mommy", as she was so protective, kind, and nurturing to those she loved, including her little brother, who she mommied and took care of any chance she could get. Madi was a seeker of the Lord, Jesus, throughout her life, and attended church often. She was certain that she would attend Arizona State University until recently, where she had voiced her interest in enrolling in the Christian-based Grand Canyon University.

Madilyn's heart and spirit were far beyond her earthly presence. She was a guardian and protector of her family, and it was her fierce love for her family and friends, that gave her life meaning. In celebrating the life of sweet, precious Madi Rose, let us carry her light within us, honoring her memory through kindness, faith, and love. Madilyn's radiant spirit was bold and bright and will live on in our hearts, reminding us to cherish and embrace the beauty of life.

Madi is survived by her devoted father Patrick (Sarah) Cox; her loving mother Danette (Daniel) Carr; her cherished sister, Charlotte Cox; her adoring brother, Daxton Carr, step-sisters, Neveah Carr, Sarah Diaz, Emma McConnell, and step-brother Samuel Wannemaker. The warmth of Madi's spirit will also be deeply missed by her grandparents, Arleen and Jerry Allen, her grandfather David Miller, and her great aunts and uncles. She leaves behind a legacy of love and fond memories shared with her aunt Lodie Steen, uncle Brandon Miller, and her cousins: Brady Steen, Alyssa Cox, and Bennett Cox. Further survived by many extended family members, including second, third, and fourth cousins who will forever cherish her vibrant spirit.

Madi was preceded in death by her guardian angel and beloved grandmother, Kathleen St. Amour (Schrader); grandfather, Donald Cox; uncle, Kevin Cox; cousin, Sean Cox; uncle, Ben Steen; great-grandparents, Charles and Connie Whiting, Stanley and Helen Miller; and great-uncle Galen Hieb. Each of them held a special place in Madi's heart.
