Judith Ann Mason

On January 23rd, 2024, the Valley lost one of its brightest smiles and happiest souls.  Jan Mason (aka Judith) passed away peacefully with her husband and two daughters by her side at home. Jan fought a brief battle with cancer with her characteristic strength, optimism, and laughter.  

She is survived by daughters Alex Lang of Coeur d'Alene, ID and Brodie Lang of Atlanta, GA; and by her husband of 43 years, Kirk Mason.

Jan and Kirk met in Hawaii and after a whirlwind romance moved to Ketchum together in December 1980. Jan worked at the Pioneer Saloon, Creekside Bar and Grill, and the Ketchum Grill for many years before turning her talents to the community service sector. Jan became involved with the Gold Mine as a volunteer and then manager to participate in the funding it provided for The Community Library, one of Jan’s favorite places in Ketchum. 

During this working journey, Jan made many lifelong friendships with numerous customers and made family bonds with her many co-workers.  After retiring, Jan spent her days hiking, cross country skiing, traveling, and spending time with family.  

Jan wanted everyone to know that she had the most wonderful life, enjoyed every minute, and had no regrets, especially after hiking to Pioneer Cabin shortly after birthday number 82. She departed with a smile in her eyes and a last song to us all:

The family sends a special thank you to the Hospice of theWood River Valley for their caring assistance with Jan's passing. 

 A day of remembrance for Jan is being planned for a TBA day in June 2024.
