Obituary for
Roy Edward Johnson
Roy Edward Johnson passed away peacefully of natural causes at his home in Sun Valley. He had a very smooth sail home.
Roy was born in Ketchikan Alaska to Bong and Laura Johnson, Norwegian immigrants. In 1941 the family moved to Seattle, WA. He graduated from Ballard High School in 1944 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving two years during World War II, one year on an aircraft carrier in the Pacific Theater. Returning home he attended the University of Washington for two years before entering the fishing business as a partner with his father in various boats, fishing from Alaska to Mexico. In 1968 he entered the King Crab Fishery and subsequently built two vessels, the Polar Star and Polar Sea, fishing crab in the Bering Sea for over 20 years. “He was truly the real perfect storm”.
Upon retiring, Roy moved to Sun Valley Idaho with his young daughter Laura and shortly thereafter he met his wife Christina Healy. Roy loved Sun Valley for its great skiing and outdoor activities.
Roy is survived by his wife and companion of 21 years, Christina Healy, sons Jay Johnson(Joan), Steve Johnson(Julie), daughter Laura Johnson(Marco), stepsons Shawn Carlyle(Erin), Thomas Ryan Healy(Heidi), grand children Nick & Reidar Johnson, Alex Carlyle, Emily & Carmen Johnson. He was preceded in death by parents and sister Jeanette Figenshow.
Per his wishes, a private gathering was held to celebrate his life on Saturday February 25th.
It was Roy’s wish to have his ashes divided and interned between the Idaho Veterans Memorial Cemetery and the Puget Sound. If you care to, donations can be made in Roy’s memory to the Hospice of Wood River Valley, P.O.Box 4320, Ketchum, ID 83340. Online condolences for the family can be sent to realperfectstrm@aol.com
