Obituary for
Alberta Louise Guffy
Alberta Lousie Ashton Guffy “Birdie” passed away Saturday, October 29, 2011 at home peacefully after being diagnosed with liver cancer. She was 84 years young.
Birdie was born in Berwick, Illinois to Willard Lind and Nancy Lewese Tolman. She was raised with her brother Chester in Gannett, Idaho, by her stepfather Henry and Nancy Ashton. Birdie and Chester attended Punkin Center School in Gannett. She also attended school in Triumph and Hailey. After High School, Birdie married Stanley Tetrault and had two daughters, Sandra and Lilla. After a short marriage she returned to the Wood River Valley and helped at the Gannett Store where she met and married Robert “Bob” Guffy. Bob and Birdie had two sons, Lyle and Jay. Together Bob and Birdie ran businesses in Carey, the 93A Café, and Bairds Café.
Later they moved to Picabo where Birdie raised their family. They moved to Bellevue in the late 70's where Birdie bought the old Post Office building and started the first “Package” Liquor Store in the Wood River Valley. She sold her business in the 80's so she and Bob could retire and enjoy life.
Birdie loved bowling and her many friendships she made while bowling. She had a uncanny ability to win in Jackpot and the many Nascar and football and horse racing pools. She still had one dollar bills stashed in her purse, ready to play Liar’s Poker!
Birdies was survived by two sons, Lyle (Jean) Guffy and Jay (Kandy) Guffy. 11 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
Friends are invited to share memories with the family at 408 Ash Street in Bellevue, Friday November, 4, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. until whenever.
