Obituary for
Robert James Goff
Robert James Goff died Monday, February 7, 2011 at his home in Hailey at age 87.
“Pop” was the best father anyone could of had. He taught us values in life, during a time in our lives that was exceptional poor. But he stuck to his virtues. He always thought of family first.
He raised his sons Robert Jr. Goff and Kenneth L. Goff by himself in a time when men didn’t normally take on that responsibility. He did a great job.
Pop was born November 25, 1923 to Marcus and Mary Goff in Riverside, CA. He was raised in Hemet, CA, where his family had a good size farm.
Pop went into the Navy on March 23, 1942. He served on the Indianapolis in the Aleutian Islands and later on the White Plains in the South Pacific Campaign. He won medals while serving and often spoke of rescuing a boat full of Marines.
After the Navy he met and fell in love with Audrey Fisher. They had two daughters and two sons. They were together for 12 years before divorcing. Pop raised the boys and Audrey raised the girls.
Pop worked at Hoffman’s Candy Co. In Los Angeles. He delivered candy to a large area of earlier L.A.
He raised the boys there surrounded by his brother Hobert, his sister Leone and their families. He had a lot of friends that were like family.
Later Pop, the boys and their families moved to Idaho. There was such fun camping and fishing. He had a small boat called “The slow boat to China” that he enjoyed at Magic going after trout but catching perch.
Pop lived in Buhl for a while making more friends there. He fed a huge covey of quail, they were fat.
Pop moved to Hailey and spent his later years close to his sons and family. We had a lot of good talks and visits there.
Pop was one of the most generous men there has ever been. He will be so missed. We will always celebrate his life.
He is survived by his children Robert James Goff, Jr. (Sheila), Kenneth Lee Goff (Carolyne), Kathy Faulkner (Bill), Linda and six grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
