Samuel Gary Loomis was born April 13, 1940 to George A. Loomis and Mary J. (Karnes) Loomis. He was the third and youngest son following George Loomis Jr. and Ned Loomis. He was raised in Whittier, California where George Sr. owned and operated a construction company. He attended California High School and met Susan Hanus, they married in April of 1960.
Gary worked at Culligan Water then after meeting Jim and Lupe Sutton, he worked with Jim in the auto business until coming to Idaho where they opened the Sutton and Sons Chevrolet in Hailey. Gary was on the staff there until his retirement.
Gary and Susan have three children who have survived him: Jeffrey Scott Loomis who resides in Murietta, CA, Denise Jill Gunderson of Nashwauk, MN, and Jayson Lee Loomis also living in Minnesota; five grandchildren Ashley Williams, Cody L. Loomis, Caitlyn Loomis, Seth Loomis and Heather Nicole Loomis; two great grandchildren Asher Curtis Williams and Sophia Loomis. Other relatives in the area include Mark Loomis, Steven Loomis, Becky Brooks and Linda Loomis.
An avid fisherman all his life, Gary enjoyed the outdoors and the abundant fishing and hiunting opportunities in the Hailey area and also continued to visit Bishop, CA for the brown trout fishing. He loved boating and motorcycle and snowmobile activities. In his younger years he participated in many of the organized drag racing events in California.
Gary died in his home in Bellevue on Thursday, February 28, 2019 where he was cared for by his family and hospice. A Memorial Gathering will be held from 1-3 p.m., Saturday June 15, 2019, at Mahoney's Bar and Grill, 104 Main Street, Bellevue, Idaho
