Obituary for
Michael James Douglas
Bellevue — Michael James Douglas, 64, died Sunday, September 4, 2011 at his home in Bellevue after a year long battle with cancer.
Michael was born September 8, 1946 in Kellogg, Idaho, the son of James Edward Douglas and Margaret Susan Kobe.
He grew up, attended school, worked and raised his family in the Wood River Valley.
In 1969, he married Susan Paivine, and they had two children, Brenda and Michael. He married Ann VanEvery on November 13, 1982.
Michael enjoyed spending time in the Stanley Basin. He also enjoyed twenty-seven years of working for Peter Flood Company and later for Johnson and Company as a landscaper. Then, every winter going to what he referred to as his “winter home” at the top of the Challenger Lift on Baldy, called the top of “10". Some of his best friends were his co-employees at these jobs.
He was one of a kind, willing to bend over backward or give his last shirt for others. Michael’s family was the most important thing in his life: his wife Ann VanEvery for thirty years, his son Mike who lived with cerebral palsy, his daughter Brenda, and his two grandchildren Vanessa and Gabe all meant everything to him.
Michael became “Papa” when Vanessa was born in 2000. She wrapped herself around his heart and could do no wrong. When Gabe was born in 2004, he was Michael’s “little cowboy”, wanting to be just like Papa, with his boots, belt and cowboy hat.
Surviving Michael besides his wife Ann, son Michael, daughter Brenda and grandchildren Vanessa and Gabe are: his step-daughter Sonya, step-grandchildren Elizabeth and Zack, great-grandchildren Eisham, Mishanti and Carvyn, and cousins Jack and Linda Stone, Patsy Talbot, Dorothy Baker and Dan Stone. He was preceded in death by his parents, all of his aunts and uncles, and one great-grandson.
A Rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, 2011 at the Wood River Chapel. The Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011 at St. Charles Catholic Church in Hailey. Interment will follow in the Hailey Cemetery.
