Christina (Christy) Marie Alvarez was born on a warm summer day, July 19th, 1974, in Billings, Montana. Christy carried that sunny warmth within her disposition throughout her life. It was impossible not to be enchanted by her wonderfully bright smile, soothing laughter, ocean blue eyes and contagiously bubbly voice. For those of us lucky enough to be loved by her, the warmth of her heart and steadfast loyalty were incomparable and capable of bringing joy even during the darkest of times.
Christy began school in Billings, Montana while helping take care of her two younger brothers, Victor and Carlos. This sibling love would create bonds that were unbreakable and last forever. Eventually Christy moved to Park City, Montana where she would become a member of her Grandparents home. Christy was the pride and joy of her grandparents and she had the best part of her youth being surrounded by the love and amazing cooking of her Grandmother, Betty Greenfield. Her Mother and Grandmother would become the inspiration and role model that Christy would follow throughout her life, from amazing homemaking to world class cooking Christy honored and followed in her Grandmother's footsteps.
At the age of 15, Christy moved to Roberts, Idaho with her mother Evelyn Greenfield (Dye) and her two younger brothers. It was in Roberts that Christy’s life would change drastically and forever. She met her best friend that would be by her side for the rest of her life, Trudy Raymond. These two formed an inseparable bond, a friendship rooted in: loyalty, love, and mutual admiration.
In 1990 Christy became pregnant with her first daughter, Jasmina Marie Garcia and with the help of her mother she began raising her first child while morphing into the best mother the world has ever experienced and what could only be described as a domestic queen.
One year after Jasmina was born Christy met the man of her dreams who would soon become her husband and the love of her life, Jose Antonio Alvarez. The genesis of their love was wild to those watching as they were enthralled with one another even though Christy didn’t speak Spanish and Antonio didn’t speak English yet they fluently spoke the age-old language of love. This love began the foundation of an amazing relationship that would last more than 30 years, the rest of her life. Soon they welcomed their first son, Marco Antonio Alvarez into the world. Marco brought joy to them so infectiously that they followed his birth with five more children! Their next daughter was born in 1994, Mercedez Alvarez, she would be dubbed the “Baby Sweetheart” and would live up to this name throughout Christy’s life. Christy would live vicariously through Mercedez watching her do the things that she hadn't done: attending and graduating University, traveling the world, and becoming a successful real estate agent. Christy joined the Catholic Church in 1997 and remained strong in her faith until her passing. Christy’s babymaking ceased for 14 years and during these years she moved from Roberts, to Hailey, Idaho. In Hailey Christy mastered the craft of Mexican cuisine, it's common knowledge to those lucky enough to try her cooking that her Mexican food would rival anyone’s, anywhere in the world: this fact would throw many people through a loop as most never imagined traditional Mexican cuisine to be made so expertly and perfectly by a blonde hair/blue-eyed American woman. While all of her dishes would make Gordon Ramsey jealous, her Chicken Mole and Pazole became staples, often requested by her family. While working at Wells Fargo Bank, she rapidly moved up in job duties and loved visiting her customers who were all captivated by her big, beautiful, white smile. As the oldest two children would leave her home in their late teen years to live with their Uncle Victor, Antonio and Christy began to feel the empty nest syndrome and decided to do what anyone would in this position, they chose to have another three children: Olivia, Nicassio, and Feliciana. This last part of her family fulfilled Christy’s heart and she spent her days taking care of them and her Sunday evenings hosting huge family dinners.
Christy spent the latter part of her life working on her family while enjoying her grandkids and the successes of her children. The happiness and intelligence in her family were indicative of Christy’s amazing nurturing. In 2014 Christy recommitted her vows to Antonio at Saint Charles Catholic Church and they continued onward in their journey of life. Christy walked the Earth as her namesake would suggest, a true embodiment of Jesus Christ: one filled with love and sacrifice. Christy became a part of the special few who left this world better than she had entered it. Christy is survived by her husband, Antonio: children Jasmina (31), Marco (29), Mercedez(28), Olivia(14), Nicassio(12), and Feliciana(7):two grandchildren Jesse James and Julian: mother Evelyn: brothers Victor and Carlos: along with many more family members. She was surrounded by her family at the bedside. She is preceded in death by her Grandfather and Grandmother Donald and Betty Greenfield. Fly high with the angels, Christy.
Christy’s family has set up a Go Fund Me to help cover the costs of burial and medical expenses along with future childcare costs as Christy was the care giver of 3 young children still living at home. We humbly ask that you consider donating which will help lay Christy to rest and bring the gift of financial safety so the family may have space to both mourn and celebrate the life of their mother, wife, daughter and sister.
Thank you so much for your love, prayers and donations. All are much appreciated.
