Ivan Seevens died suddenly on April 29, 2021 in the early afternoon. Having risen at 4 am he had traversed the valley, brought his wife a surprise pastry, had coffee with his friend Eric, went to several client meetings, and talked to multiple friends and business associates, and even his brother in the Netherlands just 15 minutes before suffering a heart attack while driving south. He was heading down to learn to process his first deer, which he “harvested” at 5:25 am when the car in front of him nailed it and he quickly put it in his car.

Ivan was one of the most generous souls; he was kind and loyal, funny and fun-loving. He didn’t take bull, and he didn’t give it; he loved to tease and joke around. A bon vivant, he didn’t believe in drinking cheap wine or liquor and he appreciated good food. He lived without regret and anything he took on, he took on 100%, with all his energy and focus and humor. Ivan was a great businessman and he always had numerous projects and plans in the works.

The most important thing to Ivan was family. His wife Ana was his “Amor”, the love of his life. They met on April 27, 1998 and fell in love by May. They had many adventures together starting in Brazil, emigrating to Miami, then finding their way to Sun Valley. Ivan would do anything for Ana. He was so proud of her embracing life in the US, learning English, and obtaining her massage certification. He loved to delight her. She fondly remembers his many sweet gestures like when he surprised her with chocolate and flowers and champagne at a beautiful hotel when they were visiting the Netherlands for Ivan's parents 50th anniversary. One of their favorite adventures was a belated honeymoon in the Maldives where they spend a magical 10 days together in paradise.

Ivan was so proud of his son Jan. They were very close, speaking and visiting often. Ivan enjoyed that Jan was pursuing his degree at Boise State where he was independent yet close to home. Ivan taught Jan the value of hard work and while he enjoyed spoiling Jan, he also insisted that Jan get a college degree and was looking forward to Jan working with him in construction this summer. He appreciated Jan’s passionate vibrancy and looked forward to watching him mature and thrive.

Ivan and Ana came to Sun Valley for many years before making it their home several years ago. Ivan loved the mountains and the people of the community, and he made friends wherever he went. He worked at the hospital, and then moved into his dream job as Project Manager with Mountainwood Construction, where he enjoyed and appreciated all his colleagues.

Ivan was fun-loving and always enjoyed a celebration. On holidays, you would find him surrounded by friends and family at his favorite restaurant, the Ram, with an Imperial of his favorite wine. On Sundays after church, he was a regular at the Konditorei. Wherever he went he made an impression and he made friends; he was one of a kind. Ivan loved to host at his home, and had a barbeque party planned for the next day. Ivan loved travel and was looking forward to being able to visit his parents and brother in the Netherlands when the flights opened up. He had more wine tasting and camping trips on the schedule. He will be deeply missed by all of us. We imagine you in heaven working on improvement projects and beefing up the heavenly wine collection!

Dear Ivan,

We really love you and your family.
I can’t believe we are here having to say goodbye to you.

I met Ivan via a Zillow call. Eric and I were in Home Depot on a Saturday morning and Ivan called and said, “I want you to show my wife some property. She doesn’t speak a lot of English. Can you do that?”

Of course I said yes, and that was the beginning of getting to know Ivan & Ana. That was the summer of 2017. Ivan & Ana found an Elkhorn condo while visiting over Christmas that year and we spent the better part of the Christmas holiday writing offers and five counters before finding agreement on Christmas day afternoon.

During Ana & Ivan’s time in Elkhorn I introduced them to Eric and we started spending time together when they were in town. And then they started thinking they wanted to move to the area permanently. I think the Sun Valley area is both Ana’s & Ivan’s “Happy Place”. We started spending more time together and Eric and Ivan developed a deep friendship, or as the kids would say “bromance”.

Ana & Ivan are some of the most genuine and generous people we know. They introduced us to their son Jan, and they were so excited when it was decided that he would move to Idaho for college. They introduced us to their Brazilian contingent of friends who are so lovely. Ivan was someone who loved life and socializing and it was contagious. And he loved to bring his friends together.

We are so grateful for the many good times we had with the Seevens.

Some of my fondest memories:

The time we went to Redfish Lake and picnicked; we taught Ivan our favorite card game and he taught me “Beber, cair e levanter”.
The several times that we spent holidays together at the Ram and enjoyed Ivan’s usual exuberance and an Imperial of his favorite wine. If you aren’t sure what that is, it is the equivalent of 8 bottles of wine and I’m pretty sure we even managed to finish the whole bottle the last time.

We shared many dinners where Ivan, Ana, and Eric would cook up ridiculous amounts of yummy food. Ivan would come up with the ideas like frog legs and Eric would chef it up!

We had so many good times just getting together in the back yard.
When Covid started, while social distancing while we enjoyed Ivan’s good company and libations.
The Seevens were the core of our quaran-team.

Just a couple weeks ago we had a great trip to Walla Walla (Ulla Ulla) to spend a weekend together with Ivan and Ana, and Dave and Etta, being debaucherous and exploring too many wineries.

And the Seevens have been there for us when we needed them. We went through some difficult times with our son, but Ana & Ivan were always supportive and gracious.
Thank you!

We’ve had so many great times camping and barbecuing and hanging. We had so many plans of trips and camping and celebrations that were in the works.

Again I say: We love you Ivan, and we love your family. I can’t believe we are here having to say goodbye to you. It isn’t okay. It truly sucks. We’ve only known you four years but it feels like so much longer. You were one of a kind. We will never forget you.

Im so very sorry to learn of this loss. I feel so grateful for getting to know Ivan this past year camping and in his home, yes all of which with amazing wine! Sending so much love to his family and other friends. I will miss seeing him on our next visit. With love, Tim & Heather Filgate and the twins.

To my best friend, my brother.
Why so early? You filled this world with joy and happiness, you were one of a kind.
You definitely left a void behind you.
We will miss you.

My love,
How to speak about you in this moment of such pain, emptiness, and longing to see you, but I breathe and search for strength to honor your name one more time as your wife. I honor you and will continue to do so as a husband, a father, a friend, a partner, and my eternal love. Not even if I wanted to would I be able to forget you, because God didn’t give me you to just forget the memory of you. God called you home because your journey here on earth was accomplished. Go my love in peace to your new life. Our son and I will continue with the unfinished plans we have ahead of us. I love you forever until the day I get to see you again.
Your Wife, Ana Seevens ❤️

I love you dad you are my hero and my greatest role model. You left this world too soon and I will miss you forever. But I know I will succeed in life because for my whole life even though you spoiled me you taught me the value of hard work. I will never forget you and you will be in my heart forever. You are the greatest man I have ever meet in my life and you left me some giant shoes to be filled but I am determined to accomplish everything for you dad. I love you ❤️. One day I will see you again and I will tell you of my tales of triumph that day will be one of the happiest in my life. I love you now and forever ❤️
