John was such a wonderful amazing man. I have known him for over 45 years and not only was he always up for a cup of coffee, a hike in the woods or just to visit he always took the time and effort. He truly was a kind and gentle person. After I left Idaho years ago he would call me every year over the holidays. He would also call my mother along with my brothers every holiday. Whenever we went back to visit Sun Valley we would always have dinner, coffee or a hike with John or as we also called him...”Onenote”. What a special person and friend he was. I will miss him, that laugh and his smile!

I remember first meeting One Note in the mid seventies when I came to "The Valley". I started work as a busboy at the Duchin Dinning Room in the Sun Valley Lodge. Immediately I bonded (was hard not too) with Note who was a waiter there. As our work time grew I got to know him better. He was a genuine person, in fact one of the most 'real' people I have ever know in my life, very caring and considerate of others. We used to hike the trails of the valley and shared many laughs along the way. He came to my wedding and would call on birthdays and Christmas. I asked him once about how he came from Michigan to reside in Sun Valley, which he called the "Velvet Trap". He told me he came one summer and liked it and decided to stay for the winter...and never left. My wife and I decided to visit in October and were lucky to have dinner with him. I miss "Note" already.
