Obituary

Richard (Dick)) Boyer was a man of love and laughter, with a smile and a good word for everyone he met. He had a penchant for poetry, puns, and approached the world with creativity and curiosity. Over the years he amassed quite a collection of poems that he wrote for friends and family to mark holidays, birthdays, special events, and just for fun.

Raised in Allentown, Pennsylvania, he met his wife and love of his life, Barbara (Bobbie Leonard) Boyer while on a blind date. Together, they raised four children, and he made it clear throughout his life that his family was his greatest accomplishment.

He had a great love of music and the theater, and while he was always modest about his abilities, he had a most beautiful singing voice and will be remembered for knowing the lyrics to all the Broadway musicals, the big band tunes, and more! His musical taste spanned from pop to jazz to classical and show tunes.

As an art teacher for over 30 years, Dick inspired numerous school students, including his own children, to expand their creative talents and think independently. He was always supportive and encouraged those around him to think outside the box. An avid creator of designs, sculptures, and drawings, his legacy of creativity lives on in the homes (and hearts) of his family and friends, and even as a tattoo on the arm of his grandson Trevor!

Dick attended Allentown, PA public schools, graduated from Kutztown State Teacher’s college, completed his graduate work at Rutgers University in NJ and Adelphi and Hofstra Colleges in NY.

He is predeceased by his siblings Bill and Doris. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Barbara Boyer of Bellevue, Idaho, his children Karen Boyer Guyton of Quilcene WA, Eric Boyer of Portland OR, Amy Boyer of Hailey ID, and Gary Boyer of Hailey ID. He was blessed with six grandchildren; Kiley, Dana, Jeff and Trevor Guyton, Uri Johndrow, and Audrey Hernandez. He has two great grandsons Nikai and Rioamari.

Dick died peacefully at home in Idaho, with love all around him, and his wife Bobbie by his side. He would have been 88 in February 2019.

A celebration of his life will be held in the spring of 2019. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Wood River Valley Hospice and Palliative Care Center or Mountain Humane will be appreciated.

This wonderful man will be missed terribly, but in our hearts forever.

I was first welcomed into the Boyer home when I was 18 and they lived in Mahopac, NY. Years later I brought both of my boys to visit while they lived in Pennsylvania. My last visit was to their wonderful home in Idaho. As always, I was made to feel right at home. Dick Boyer, or Karen, Eric, Amy & Gary's dad, was always so easy to talk to, open and warm. He will be greatly missed. He was one of those special people who made this world a better place.

I had the pleasure if meeting Mr. Boyer this past summer and he made the biggest impression on me. I felt as though I had known him for years and was very saddened to hear about his passing. I will keep Mrs Boyer and the family in my prayers. Our deepest condolences.

I never had the privilege of meeting Mr. Boyer, but I know his lovely daughter, Karen. He had to have been pretty special to raise a daughter like Karen. Rest In Peace with the angels!
